Notice God's unutterable waste of saints, according to the judgment of the world. God plants His saints in the most useless places. We say - God intends me to be here because I am so useful. Jesus never estimated His life along the line of the greatest use. God puts His saints where they will glorify Him, and we are no judges at all of where that is. ~Oswald Chambers, My Utmost For His Highest, August 10

The Real Countryside

While in Mongolia, we took a little family vacation with a purpose. Not all of Gana's side of the family has heard the Gospel. So, we decided to visit some of them. We spent a few days in the countryside with Gana's mom's oldest sister. She is 83 years young.

Our trip took us from Ulaanbaatar, the capital city, to Darhan, the second largest city. There we stopped in to visit some relatives and to meet up with our guide. You see, you cannot get to the real countryside by looking at a map or by asking directions. It takes a guide.

It's about 3-4 hours from Ulaanbaatar to Darhan. Then it was four hours to Gana's Aunt's house. It was over some rivers, through some woods and definitely off the beaten path.

We saw some camels wandering across the hills.
About halfway from Darhan to our destination we stopped to refresh ourselves in a river. We splashed and cooled off--a much needed rest for this pregnant lady who was bouncing all over the backseat of that jeep!

Emee (Mongolian for Grandmother) and Belgee.

We had a great time in the countryside. We stayed most of the time outdoors in the fresh air and under the blue skies. It was so green and lovely.

Captain learning about milking cows.

Meg helping to collect firewood.

Mud is great fun.

Where the family lovingly prepared meals.

Gana's mom and aunt sitting in front of the house. In the bucket is smoking dried cow patties. This kept the hordes of mosquitoes away. Believe it or not, it really doesn't smell badly.

Well, it probably doesn't smell that bad, because they probably don't have all the hormones and stuff the cows here have.

Good point. I hadn't thought of that.
