Notice God's unutterable waste of saints, according to the judgment of the world. God plants His saints in the most useless places. We say - God intends me to be here because I am so useful. Jesus never estimated His life along the line of the greatest use. God puts His saints where they will glorify Him, and we are no judges at all of where that is. ~Oswald Chambers, My Utmost For His Highest, August 10

Reformation Day
What do we do? We do remember the Reformation. On October 31, 1517 Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the door of the Church. So on October 31 we read a little about his life, sing "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God" and do some fall crafts. It's important because what he sweated and labored to come to grips with (salvation by grace, through faith alone) we receive in an instant. We are still benefiting from his sacrifice.
This year the kids made books.

You say potato and I say potahto
It didn't all scan well, but it was about JP Morgan buying a bankrupt WaMu. It starts with, "We have some exciting news for our customers! We are proud to announce that WaMu has become part of one of the nation's strongest banks..."
I guess that sounds better than, "Bad news folks. We misused your funds and are now bankrupt. So, we were bought out for pennies on the dollar by more clever bankers. It was nice knowing you."

Signs, signs, everywhere a sign
Glad to be able to perfume my hair tape....
One little Chinese restaurant in Ulaanbaatar provided endless entertainment. What to order...what to order....
I love number 7. I'm not sure I want to eat something that's been tasted with tongue....
These next two leave a big decision to the one ordering.....
Shall I get the seagarbage or just the regular garbage? (By the way, the translation to the first one is seaweed soup and the second is cabbage.)
I think this next one is named after someone who is too big a coward to slander you to your face.
Been a while since I had a good fried paunch...
This next one is hilarious only in context. So let me set it up....
We had just had a very interesting encounter trying to clear security in Beijing. The airport guidelines say you can carry up to 100 ml. liquid. However, as we were just coming home we checked all toiletries in the baggage. After x-raying our carry-on bags they said, "You have liquids!" I said, "No, we don't." They rifled through my purse until they found a tiny little jar (you know those very little ones) of Burt's Bees lip balm. "You no take this!" I said, "It's not liquid." Then they rifled some more and found Gana's bottle (about a tablespoon's worth) of anointing oil from Israel. "You cannot take liquid!" they said. I figured it was futile to argue with the Chinese. I could see a woman that was trying to clear security ahead of me who was being yelled at for having mascara in her bag.
We were all (Gana and I, the woman in front of me and her friend) marched over to another security check point. The lady said in broken English, "They try take these!" *Slam it on the desk* The new security lady said, "You no take liquid!" I said, picking up the lip balm, "This is not liquid. It's solid." The other lady, showing the airport's own regulation paper: "See, these are ALLOWED--less than 100 ml." The security lady said, "No! No for this flight. No hair gel, no deodorant. No lipstick! NO!"
I took my lip balm, applied it generously and we just walked away without saying anything else. You cannot argue with the Chinese at the airport.
Then we went to the gate where they were closing the duty-free shops. They lowered the gate to the shop on a customer's head. When we got to the gate we realized that there were not more than maybe 25 chairs for the hundreds of people waiting for the flight. Looking for some place to sit we saw the following sign. The lady with the contraband mascara was walking near us. I asked, "Do you like irony?" and showed her the sign:
